Amanjiwo (peaceful soul) overlooks Borobudur, the world's largest Buddhist sanctuary, in the rural heartland of Central Java. Located in one of the most scenic parts of the country, it rests within a natural amphitheatre; the Menoreh Hills rise up behind and no less than four volcanoes grace the horizon.

Booking via Classictravel.com,I noticed a sense of exceptional and preferred treatment in service. Upon booking, I received an email from the hotel requesting my flight itinerary as they graciously arranged a complimentary pick up in a luxury SUV. You'll fly into Adi Sucipto International Airport in Yogyakarta which is a 1.5 hour drive to Amanjiwo. Upon arrival I was picked up in a very comfortable SUV stocked with refreshments, cold water, cold lemongrass aroma'ed towel and authentic local snacks all within reach. What really impressed me by far was when the driver informed me that the vehicle was equipped with MiFi (mobile wifi powered by 3G) which enabled me to connect to the internet so that I could inform friends and family of my arrival without having to make an expensive phone call. Speaking of internet, Amanjiwo resort is equipped with high speed wireless broadband connection throughout the resort and public areas.

Aman resorts are known for strategically positioning their properties in the best locations and Amanjiwo demonstrates that the moment you step foot into the lobby area underneath the dome. From that vantage point, you will see a clear view of Borobudur at dawn and dusk.

Private dawn and sunset visits to Borobudur and other archeological monuments in the vicinity are a highlight of a stay at Amanjiwo.

Amanjiwo Borobudur Pool Suite featuring a King size bed. As you can see, the luxurious Javanese style pool villa is incredibly spacious. A personal butler was always ready to offer assistance attending our requests and needs. Classic Travels exclusive Virtuoso rate gave me an upgrade to the pool suite on arrival.

Amanjiwo possesses a 40-metre infinity swimming pool, lined with green tiles and overlooked by banyan trees, is surrounded by rice paddies. Overlooked by sun loungers and umbrellas, it lies adjacent to the Pool Club, a raised and colonnaded semicircular deck where breakfast, light lunches, drinks and snacks are served

The Restaurant, with its silver-leaf ceiling, is defined by a double row of stone columns and looks out onto the crescent-shaped Terrace featuring black terrazzo tables and silver-painted rattan chairs with batik cushions. At either end of the Restaurant, gold-painted murals recreate scenes from the Hindu Mahabharata epic, but the view over rice fields to Borobudur and its surrounding volcanoes takes centre stage. Indonesian and Western cuisines are served in these dining venues, but the specialty of the house is Makan Malam, a series of classic Javanese dishes served in traditional brass bowls

Amanjiwo
During my stay, Classic Travel's exclusive virtuoso rate included a daily breakfast which was a perfect start. One morning when Amanjiwo planned my early 4am Borobudur temple tour, they even arrange a quick to go early morning breakfast that consisted of pastries, fresh fruits and juices.

The Dalem Jiwo Suite is a discrete compound complete with a private entrance, wraparound terrace and two separate bedrooms, each with stone steps descending to the suite's private swimming pool and its two lounging bales. The 15-metre pool, finished in a green Javanese stone known as hijau danau, is set into the rice fields. The Dalem Jiwo Suite's personal butler, always on call, will arrange all tours and dining options. (Pictured above)

Amanjiwo was kind enough to extend a complimentary excursion to Selogriyo which is a 45 minute drive through the villages to an amazing area of rice terraces. This photo above is part of a village we walked through to get to the terraces.  We then walked 1 hour through the terraces on a small trail to a charming Hindu temple tucked away at the head of the valley. It's absolutely stunning for photographers and there's no other visitors.

This is the view of Borobudur which is directly ahead of the resort and just beyond the great Buddhist temple is the rounded hill of Tidar.
You will not get this view anywhere else! This photo was taken from my Borobudur pool suite.
